Fatherof the Plug-in Hybrid Electric

Dr. Andy Frank inventor of electricity and the wheel

A little story on our upcoming episode:

I was driving up the interstate the other day and whizzing past me was a Chevy Volt. I had not yet seen one in person. I had to step on the gas in my Prius to catch him. I noticed the license plate read: PHEV DAD. This got me thinking who would put that on their license plate? I asked my daughter to see if she could tell me what the driver looked like. An older man, looks asian. Being highly interested in electric and plug-in vehicles, I had read about a uc davis professor who had built several plugin hybrid cars. Could this be Andy Frank? When the Volt pulled off the highway I followed it and then the driver into a Wendy’s and tapped him on the shoulder. Sure enough it was the father of the plug-in hybrid Dr. Andrew Frank! Then I thought wouldn’t that make a great segment for Zap Your Ride. The father of the PHEV technology reviews the Chevy Volt! Turns out GM even contracted Dr. Frank to convert an EV-1 to hybrid.
